Dress Code 2008-2009

Chapel

FCS has a well-planned weekly chapel program that is Biblically sound, morally and spiritually edifying and inspirational. Pastors and Christian laymen from all walks of life participate. Students are required to bring their Bibles to chapel and are required to follow chapel day dress standards. Parents are welcome to attend. The elementary grades collect a weekly chapel offering to support missionaries selected by the students and the faculty.

Chapel Dress for K - 12

Chapel Day is considered a special day at Faith Christian School.

Girls should wear dresses, skirts, or dress slacks that are not faded or frayed with the appropriate tops and dress shoes/dress sandals.

Dresses/skirts must be at the top of the knee or below when standing.

Tops, whether on chapel days or other days, may not have any writing, numbers, or pictures on the front or back. Chapel day tops worn with skirts do not necessarily have to have collars, but should be dressy.

When the girls wear dress slacks on Chapel Day, they must wear shirts/blouses with collars, with or without a sweater.

Dress slacks are dressy slacks that are properly fitting usually of material such as cotton, cotton blend, or twill materials. No jeans, cargo pants, pants with outer pockets, or pants with draw strings.

 Girls may not wear —

*Beach or sport style, rubber/plastic sandals, rubber/plastic/foam flip-flops or crocs

*Indiscreet or revealing clothing

Guys should wear dress slacks (see definition above) with a belt if they have belt loops, dress shoes and socks, and a full button shirt or polo shirt, tucked in, with or without a sweater. A tie is optional.

Guys may not wear

*Sneakers, sandals or crocs

*Jeans or oversized pants

No sweatshirts, fleeces, or any athletic jackets may be worn on chapel days.

Dress Code

Neatness and modesty have always been our goal at Faith when it comes to dress code. Styles change but we need to have an enduring standard that focuses on these two values.

Apart from other mechanics described below, emphasize with your children that things such as tightness of clothing or just the opposite, bagginess of clothing, can communicate things to people around them as to who they are. If we feel that a student is technically meeting the dress code standard but still does not meet the criteria for neatness or modesty, then we’ll ask them to not wear the clothing anymore. In some cases a change will be required before returning to class.

Shirts—Three options available

Polo style shirts—long or short sleeve.

These do not have to have buttons but we ask that they clearly have a collar. Polo shirts do not need to be tucked in.

Standard collared shirts for guys

FCS Spirit Wear or school approved FCS event wear

Blouses/Shirts for girls— **No midriff or cleavage should show at anytime. Tops should not be tight fitting nor baggy or oversized. Spaghetti strap tops must have an appropriate top underneath. Sleeveless or capped-sleeved blouses or dresses are not allowed.

No — T-style tops for girls or guys except FCS spirit/event wear.

**Students wearing tops in violation of this policy will be required to change into an acceptable top in order to continue in classes. The school will provide a top if the student does not have one. Time out of class will be unexcused.

Tops may not have any writing, numbers, or pictures on the front or back. They must be buttoned.

Sweaters, Sweatshirts (Hooded and Regular), and Athletic Jackets

Collared shirts must be showing underneath unless it’s a turtleneck sweater or pull-over hooded sweatshirt with a closed neckline. The sweater can be a traditional knit sweater or an FCS sweatshirt.

Sweaters, sweatshirts, and FCS team athletic jackets may be worn; however, hoods may not be worn up on sweaters and sweatshirts. Sweaters and sweatshirts may not have any writing, numbers, or pictures on the front or back. Insignias should not exceed pocket size (4"x4"), however, FCS Spirit Wear sweatshirts and hooded sweatshirts will be allowed on regular school days.

No sweatshirts, fleeces, or FCS team athletic jackets may be worn on chapel days.

No outerwear is allowed to be worn in the classroom. This includes athletic wear such as jackets designed to be worn as part of a jogging suit. Students will be allowed to wear fleece jackets and vests which are designed to be worn indoors. Heavy fleece jackets, designed to be outerwear, will not be allowed. Tops that show under fleeces and sweaters must be according to dress code. (No exposed t-shirts other than FCS spirit/event wear are allowed under open fleece garments.)

Pants

Jeans, or khakis, or dress pants.

Cargo pants are permitted

Pants must not be faded, frayed, have holes or be worn looking. All slacks/jeans should be neatly hemmed. No baggy or over-sized pants that would give a sloppy appearance. Faded or multi-colored pants or skirts which draw attention to a girl immodestly are not allowed.

No—Shorts or Capri pants unless announced ahead of time due to weather.
No—Sweat pants or wind pants

                    Shoes

Sneakers, shoes, leather sandals, and crocs are acceptable.
No beach or sports-style, rubber/plastic sandals or rubber/plastic /foam flip-flops are allowed.

Guys

Hairstyle is to be neatly trimmed and combed, not to extend over the top of the ears or shirt collar. No extreme or faddish styles and colors. Sideburns should not extend below the bottom of the ear.

No—facial hair, earrings, tattoos, or body piercing.

Girls

No—extreme or faddish hairstyles and colors.
No—tattoos or body piercing, except for ears.

Athletic Dress (Game Day Both Home & Away)

Chapel dress is required on both home and away game days for team members. Girls are permitted to wear dress slacks for games that fall on non-chapel days. Students are to remain in school dress until leaving the school campus after the activity. (FCS team jerseys are permitted when directed by the coach, except on Chapel days. However, the shirts must be tucked in.)

Dress Code Violations

Final appropriateness of any style of dress rests with the school administration. Students (grades 7 –12) not following the guidelines will receive a detention. Dress code violations involving immodesty or flagrant violations will need to be corrected immediately at the direction of the administration.

Exceptions for Students Pre-K-3

Bib overalls (neat, clean, hemmed, fitting properly) may be worn, but not on chapel days.
Pre-K dress code will be determined by the teacher and communicated to the parents.

Snow Dress - Grades Pre-K-6

From the first snow fall, or as indicated by the school, until the end of the winter season, students in grades K-6 are to wear head covers, mittens or gloves and boots. Snow pants are strongly recommended.
